Fashion Coffee Table Books

Mesmeric and inspiring, each with their own charm, I adore my coffee table books. My collection takes pride of place atop my chest of drawers in addition to a selection of framed prints and Vogue covers.

The three books which are speaking to me the most out of my collection as of now are;

  • Places to go People to see explores the world through the lens of Kate Spade
  • Chanel Catwalk delves into over 150 of Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel Catwalks
  • Vogue 100 – A Century of Style showcases imagery from British Vogue’s 100 year legacy

Instagram Stories – The Best

In an ever-changing social media landscape, the most successful brands are able to adapt their social media strategies with the launch of new features; such a situation has been presented recently with the introduction of Instagram Stories. In regards to fashion brands, Ted Baker and Kate Spade have risen to the top of the pack with their fun and interactive Instagram Stories.

Ted Baker are innovators of fun in every aspect which is portrayed in their use of Instagram Stories. Choosing to showcase the ‘Keeping up with the Bakers’ campaign as if flicking through TV channels is utterly fun and extremely clever. This interactive social media campaign integrates moving editorial images, witty puns, competitions and sounds. Utilising Instagram’s ‘See More’ feature ensures the capitalisation of customers through easy navigation to Ted’s website.

Whilst Ted Baker chose to use ‘Stories’ as a platform to share their Keeping up with the Bakers campaign, Kate Spade have opted to use the platform to showcase a different quote, fact or good deed everyday. Kate Spade’s use of Instagram stories is charming and mirrors the core essence of the brand, fitting in with their target customer who is ‘Quick, Curious, Playful and Strong’.

Art Work

Below you will find a brief summary of the art work I created from 2014 to 2015, with the semi-biographical subject matter of both ‘Hands’ and ‘Scoliosis’.

Hands Project, 2015

“I began to realise how profound, from an artist’s point of view, the expression of the human hand is. Not only is it the most expressive part of the body, it’s a visible extension of the brain and feeling”- Barbara Hepworth

Family plays a significant role in my life and I chose to explore three generations of my family’s hands within this project.

Spinal Surgery Project, 2015

Having suffered from Scoliosis and undergone extensive spinal surgery to correct this, I decided to base a biographical project on the journey of my Scoliosis surgery.

Hands Project, 2014

Alongside this project on ‘Hands’, I extensively prepared for and came regional runner up in the art public speaking competition, ARTiculation. Here I was privileged enough to give a presentation to a crowd of artists and industry experts at The Hepworth Gallery about Barbara Hepworth’s ‘Hospital Drawings’.
